Covetousness is engraved in the very fiber of our culture and it manifests in every area of our lives ;We do not know that it is a sin because we were born into it So It has become the normal thing to do This is the reason why John Ankerberg states that covetousness is a sin nobody talks about Our culture believes that power lies in accumulating stuff This is the reason for the popular slogan coined by Malcolm Forbes” He who dies with the most toys wins” As a result of this saying everybody wants to be winners, hence the rat- race for accumulation of stuff My friend bought the latest model
of B M W I too must buy one like that by all means If you don’t have the money ,then you borrow by getting a car loan on it Getting a loan is easier but it is paying it off that is harder Then you have to start working two or three jobs in order to pay it off By so doing you will neglect your kids and your spouse depriving them of the precious time you should have spent with them . Moreover, covetousness can manifest in our places of work When you begin to tell your friend you can do a better job than your supervisor Then you begin to criticise your supervisor by putting him or her down By the time you know it ,it can lead to envy–where there’s envy there are all sorts of evil
Furthermore, covetousness do manifest in our relationships whereby a man cheats on his spouse leaving her to have an affair with another woman –who is “forbidden person “— That is another man’s wife “The outcome of this covetousness leads to misery.
